ATTORNEYS
WILLIAM M. STEIN
Mr. Stein attended Fordham Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1976. He has extensive experience in the areas of collection, commercial litigation, municipal law and real estate practice. He served as the local Village Attorney for many years and is currently serving as the Town Attorney for the Town of Haverstraw. He also serves on the Joint Regional Sewer Board and is the Attorney for the South Nyack-Grandview Joint Police Board.
Since his practice concentrates on commercial and retail collection he has been an active member of the Commercial Law League of America, serving as Chairman of the Eastern District. He has had many published cases, especially in the area of banking, leasing and municipal law. However, his most noteworthy case, Stambrowsky v. Ackley (“The Haunted House Case”) established landmark precedent in the New York State Real Estate Practice. Also, Mr. Stein is a frequent lecturer for the Bar Association on Collection and FDCPA Compliance. In his spare time he serves on numerous nonprofit Boards and enjoys playing with his grandchildren.
ARI J. STEIN
Ari Stein is a partner of Stein & Stein and his areas of expertise include managing day-to-day operations of the firm, acting as client relations liason and overseeing active litigation. Mr. Stein was admitted to the New York State Bar after graduating the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2001. Mr. Stein is a graduate of the College Park Scholars Program at the University of Maryland where he received a B.A. in political science and history and was awarded a Presidential Scholarship.
Mr. Stein gained his first legal collection experiences at Jaffe & Asher where he oversaw the litigation of thousands of consumer credit card cases until joining his family firm in 2005. Throughout his career, he has successfully tried hundreds of litigation matters, as well as successfully brought and defended appeals on collection matters to the appellate courts in the State of New York.
Mr. Stein is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts and a member of the Rockland County Bar Association, New York State Creditors Bar Association, Commercial Law League of America, International Association of Commercial Collectors, Inc., and Commercial Collection Agencies of America. His practice area throughout his legal career has always been exclusively in the area of commercial and retail collection law and creditors’ rights, with an emphasis on the litigation and collection of all types of banking debt, insurance deductibles and premiums, debts owed to professionals in the medical, legal and accounting industries, as well as focus on collection of university tuition.
Mr. Stein is an active member of his community having served as an executive member and legal counsel for his synagogue. When not working or studying Mr. Stein enjoys playing the piano and electronic music composition, skiing, diving, cooking and spending time with his wife and four children.
ALISA STEIN
Mrs. Stein is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Buffalo and received her law degree from Pace Law School, where she earned awards in Constitutional Law and Civil Procedure. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1994. Her areas of concentration include collection, commercial litigation, real estate, business transactions and Estate Planning.
She is an active member of the Commercial Law League of America, serving on the organization’s National Board and as Chair of the Eastern Region, and with the New City Rotary, as Board Member and President. She also served as Co-Chair for the Board of Rockland Family Shelter, a local organization helping victims of domestic violence. She and her partner/husband, William, have two married sons and eight grandchildren with whom she loves to spend her free time.
ZEEVYAH A. BENOFF
Zeevyah Benoff is a partner at Stein & Stein. She is a Henry Rutgers Scholar and a graduate of the Rutgers College Honors Program where she received her B.A. in history and political science and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She received her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she earned Deans list all three years. She was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar in 2002 and the New York State Bar in 2003.
Upon graduation, Ms. Benoff worked for the Administration of Children’s Services, Division of Legal Services, as an Agency Attorney in the Bronx representing the New York City Commissioner of Social Services in child abuse litigation and other child protective proceedings. She then moved to the firm Qinlan and Fields representing foster care agencies in New York City Family Courts.
In 2008 she joined Stein & Stein, concentrating her legal practice in the areas of commercial and consumer collection and litigation in New York and New Jersey.
Zeevyah is a lifelong resident of Teaneck, New Jersey where she is an active member of the community. When not working, she can be found spending time with her husband and partner, Ari Stein and their four children.
